How to Choose a Projection Screen for Your Phoenix Home Theater

May 11, 2016

So you’re designing a home theater. Congratulations on your decision to invest in your home this way. You have countless hours of at-home entertainment to look forward to. In order to optimize your home theater experience, it’s important it be professionally designed and installed, have a high-quality surround sound system, and have a projection screen that is right for the space you have chosen.

Size

When it comes to projection screens, bigger is not always better. The size of your viewing wall and the distance between the viewing wall and the seats in your home theater should both be taken into account when choosing the size of your screen. In general, there should be at least one foot of space between a seat and the projector for every ten inches of diagonal length the screen’s got. While it is crucially important to choose a screen that is properly sized for your home theater, most of the best home theaters have projection screens that measure between 100 and 200 diagonal inches.

Style

There are dozens of bells and whistles a projection screen may or may not have that set it apart from other screens. When we talk about style, however, we’re generally splitting Phoenix home theater projection screens into two categories: fixed and retractable. Fixed screens are just that: fixed. They’re always against the wall. They can’t easily be moved. They certainly don’t roll up and down into a cylindrical pile at the top of the ceiling. If they did, they would be retractable.

Deciding which is better for your home theater is primarily a matter of personal preference. If your home theater is a multipurpose room in which you don’t want a large projection screen present, then a retractable screen might be better for you. If you only plan on using your home theater to view movies, TV shows, sporting events, home videos, and other forms of visual media, then a fixed screen is probably fine. Other bells and whistles held constant, fixed screens tend to be cheaper.
